Clean, "Blue Flag" family beaches |
With 133km of golden beaches, cliffs and creeks running along a sparkling coast that is lined with pinewoods, dotted with towns and backed by green hills, you are spoilt for choice. Whether you are looking for lively, fun-packed beaches or solitary shores, all the Abruzzo beaches contain the charm and proverbial friendliness that you will find all over the region.
Most importantly, the commitment of the Abruzzo Tourist Board to the sustainable development of its coastline is shown by the prestigious "Blue Flag" having been awarded to many of its beaches and marinas.
Our absolute favourite, and luckily also our closest at a mere 30 minute drive down the valley, is Pomodoro Spiaggia
A few more of our favourites are below. All are within an easy drive from Kokopelli and all are Blue Flag winners.

RIPARI DI GIOBBE (40km / 50 mins from Kokopelli)
Should you need to escape the sun with a cooling beer or ice-cream, there's a small, unintrusive, well stocked bar with a shady terrace overlooking the beach. Or, if you fancy a walk, Ortona, complete with ancient castle, port and lighthouse and steeped in history, is just a 3km walk along the rocks following the fascinating old railway line.

SAN VITO CHIETINO (65km / 55 mins from Kokopelli)
Sn Vito Chietino |
The village of San Vito is one of the prettiest you will find. It is a beautiful little port town where a number of small restaurants serve incredible seafood, eaten raw or simply boiled, but always exquisitely dressed with oil and lemon.
The protected Trabocchi, ancient wooded fishing huts built on stilts out to sea, provide a fascinating spectacle to the seascape of the area and a gentle reminder of all its history.
